Sidi boots have a rich history in the off-road motorcycle scene, something that is set to continue for a long time with their top of the line CrossFire2 moto kicks, which we were lucky enough to test…
Just to prove how important the New Zealand market is to Sidi, the boots that arrive down here will have a slightly wider fit, since Kiwi feet are a little bigger than European feet.
Just because the boot is slightly wider doesn’t mean it is more cumbersome – in fact, it is actually quite the opposite! Thanks to the a non-bootie design, the toe box has a low profile design, making it fit under your shifter with ease, where it won’t ever get hooked up.
The rear of the boot, as well as up the calf area, has a lot more ventilation than most boots – including the first CrossFire – that is a bonus in those summer months!
While the Crossfire2 is still available with the traditional sole, the SRS gives a rider the ability to replace their sole when the pegs have finally chewed ‘em out. Trust us, this is a great attribute in a dirt bike boots, which will save you money and time.
Adjustable Calf System. This has been improved so it now measures 56cm in diameter to allow for even larger calves. This is achieved through the inner double adjustment.
Sure, we live in New Zealand, so do those EU directives for CE certification actually anything? Yes. That’s why having a piece of riding gear that is CE certified is a good thing. The CrossFire2 has been independently tested to conform to all of the manufacturer’s obligations to the CE directives.
The Crossfire2 also has the Sidi Flex System… okay, what’s the Sidi Flex System? It means the boot has two articulated joints: one, on the ankle, improves a rider’s movement, while the upper pivot improves the overall flexibility of the boot (and just how the bootleg fits a rider, too).
The CrossFire2 has improved on the original boots by having four micro adjustable buckles. The buckles, just like the soles, are also replaceable. But its those micro adjustable buckles that allow the CrossFire2 to fit like a glove – like gloves for you feet.
TAKE A TRIP BACK
Sidi goes a fair way back, having been founded nearly five decades ago, by Dino Signori. Mr. Signori was a bit of a legend in the sports footwear industry (having created one of the very first modern ski boots), before teaming up with another legend, Joel Robert, to create the Sidi Full Bore. From the late Sixties to the early Eighties, the Full Bore was one of the most popular off-road boots, with both professionals and weekend warriors alike. In subsequent years, the Sidi design team has created some of the most groundbreaking designs in motorcycle footwear and technology, from being the first boot to offer inner ankle protection, having a replacement system (as found on the CrossFire2) and cam-lock buckle systems.
